Boho Locs Hair Care And Storage Tips

If you love a chill-AF approach to your hair routine, you know Boho Locs products are a perfect way of achieving a chic yet bohemian look with minimal fuss.
However, one of the biggest misconceptions about our locs is that they require little to no care.
Au contraire: They will need some maintenance
From regular moisturizing of your own scalp to nighttime routines, our bespoke Queen, Distressed, and Butterfly locs (practically every Boho Locs hair collection) needs special care to look its best.
Ahead, we offer tips on how best to take care of your locs from the time you get them installed to when you take them down.
How to Take Care of Your Boho Locs
Like any other protective styling, the amount of TLC you give your locs determines how long they’ll serve you and their appearance.
So, you need to:
Loc Down Your Co-Wash Routine
Washing locs is one of the most contentious parts of the style. Unless you roll in the dust on a daily, washing them as you’d do your natural hair runs the risk of loosening them.
And while you can get away with not washing them, sometimes, especially during the hot seasons, you need to give them a quick wash to prevent dirt buildup.
If you do, be sure to:
  • Use a spray bottle of watered down shampoo and spray it on your scalp
  • Lightly massage the scalp with your fingers
  • Optional – gently co-wash the locs with cold water
  • Rinse out your locs and scalp
  • Optional – condition your locs as you would your hair, then rinse it out
  • Air dry your locs (avoid any heating tools) and ensure they’re completely dry before bunching them together or tying them up
PS: You can gently wash all the Boho Locs products apart from the Mermaid Locs – you run the risk of destroying the loose waves in the process.
Additionally, if you have to wash your locs, be sure to do so only once a week.
Loc In Your Moisturizer
If you’re a skincare fanatic, you know the wonders a good moisturizer can do to your skin.
Well, Boho Goddess, Queen, and Xtra locs thrive when hydrated, so a good ‘ol water-based leave-in conditioner is your best friend.
However, avoid over-moisturizing with products. It can make them damp or cause product buildup in the nook and crannies of your cornrows, triggering itching.
To also keep the ends soft, be sure to gently finger-comb through your locs every morning and then loosely spray with your water-based conditioner.
Loc in Your Oils
Use natural oils or a cream-based moisturizer to keep your locs and scalp healthy.
Pure base oils like grapeseed or coconut oil protect them from getting too dry. They’re also lightweight, easily absorbable, and less likely to cause buildup.
And don’t ignore your edges!
Your edges hold down your protective style, so be sure to snatch them down with some gel or heavier oil like castor oil.
Loc in Your Nighttime Routine
Just like your nighttime skincare routine is vital in giving you a radiating glow, nighttime loc maintenance helps preserve the locs and allows them to last longer.
So, ensure you sleep on a satin/silk pillowcase or wrap your locs in a silk scarf or bonnet. You can also put your locs in a low pony or a loose twist or braid.
How to Store Your Boho Locs
If you’re looking to re-install your locs, you need to make sure you store them properly after taking them down.
This keeps them looking sexy for a more extended period and makes them easier to re-use.
Some of the best ways to store your Boho Locs merchandise is:
  • In a breathable linen bag in your closet (don’t place them on top of your closet. They’ll become dusty)
  • In a satin bag or pillowcase (place them one by one – avoid rolling them up. They’ll knot together and become frizzy)
  • On round market rings
Just like your bottle of perfume and skincare essentials, you need to ensure you keep your locs in a cool, dry and safe place, where humidity, your kids, and pets can’t reach them, for optimal results.

It’s that simple!
Now, if you don’t mind, share with us the steps you take in caring for your locs. Aaannnd, be sure to let us know which Boho storage merch you’d like to see from us this year. You know we always got you, sis!
