There has been a renaissance in promoting and celebrating Black-owned companies, but this is not just a fad. We've been here. We are pioneering in our respected fields of commerce. People are buying Black and you should be too!
Boho Locs, a Female and Black-owned hair brand, is a testament to the power of buying Black. Did you know that?
Beauty and personal care department products generated sales valued at approximately 98 billion U.S. dollars in the United States in 2020, according to a report by Statista Charts in 2020.
Black women spend nearly nine times more than non-Black people on ethnic hair and beauty products. Black women alone spend billions on beauty annually, according to a 2019 Nielsen study.
More and more stores are setting up entire aisles with ethnic hair care products. This wasn't the case a decade ago. If you wanted to find products for your hair, you would have to spend a lot of money on expensive salon-grade products that were not precisely created for us and our hair types or make the products ourselves from natural ingredients like Shea Butter and Castor Oil, which we still do. Still, products are readily available for us to purchase when we enter a shop.
Black hair content creators have steadily been on the rise.
One of the OG Natural Hair Vloggers, Naptural 85, was uploading content to YouTube in 2009, thus being one of the first people to kick off the Natural Haircare Movement. Since then, there have been many more natural hair content creators, making it normalized and, better yet, celebrated to have natural hair.

There aren't just natural hair creators making waves in Black haircare; there are spaces for women with permed, colored, etc. In the creator space.
Not only is the Black hair care moment here to stay but buying Black as a whole. And there's no stopping us!
We have the buying power. But let's get real, Black people are trend-setters. Our innovations, from our hair to our dances and how we dress, are global and go viral. We create what's hot and trendy. Supporting and buying from Black-owned businesses keeps that power in our hands instead of other people trying to profit on the backs of our hard work and creativity.
Black-owned Businesses are in high demand and are reaping the profits from it. The more these businesses thrive, the more they can hire people to work for these companies from their own communities.
We have the opportunity to source from high-quality materials and ingredients and take into account what works for us as Black people by the people who are us. Nobody knows Black people like other Black people. We uplift each other.
We at Boho Locs must support and cater to Black women and support other Black-owned brands. The more we shout each other out, the more we excel in the industry, especially in the beauty sphere.
