3 Benefits of Protective Styling With Boho Locs

By now you know that wearing Boho Locs comes with many different benefits. The styles are versatile and ready-to-wear for any and every occasion; you only need one pack for a complete style; and did we mention that everyone looks great in them?
It's all true!
But did you know that Boho Locs are also an effective protective style? Yup. From the installation process to the take-down, Boho Locs were created with protection and longevity in mind.
Interested in knowing how to get the most out of your Boho Locs? Here are 3 benefits of wearing them as a protective style.
#1 - Boho Locs are a low-manipulation style.
Just to refresh your memory, low manipulation styles are styles that require less touching and styling overall. In other words, it keeps your hands out of your hair!
This is an important element of protective styling because less manipulation protects your hair from damage by reducing the possibility of friction and tension—both of which cause hair thinning and shedding over time.
Not to mention that not having to go in and continuously touch and tweak your hair—like you would with styles like wigs or a silk press—saves you a lot of time and effort overall.
The fact that Boho Locs are considered a low-manipulation style is a part of our magic. After your install, you don't have to touch your hair too much at all! Just wrap it up at night, gently run your fingers through them in the morning, and you're good to go.

#2 - You can wear Boho Locs for as long as you need to.
The longer you leave your hair alone to let it grow and flourish on its own, the better. And Boho Locs gives you the opportunity to do that by allowing you to wear them up to 12 weeks at a time.
Did you catch that last part? Yes, at a time—meaning you can uninstall and reuse them after you wore them for the full 3 months with proper maintenance.
I know what you're thinking, " I don't know if I could rock a protective style for that long without being able to care for my hair" and that's a fair assessment.
However, with Boho Locs, you can still cleanse, moisturize, and oil your scalp without uninstalling your style.
Sis, when I say we checked every box—we really checked every box. Plus, you never have to wash the Boho Locs themselves. All of our styles from Boho Goddess Locs to Boho Butterfly Locs uphold wonderfully without ever being touch by shampoo and water.

#3 - Boho Locs help your hair retain moisture.
A key part of the Boho Locs installation process is moisturizing and sealing your hair before you install the locs.
Yes, protective styles are meant to do all the protecting, but they can't do their job unless you make sure your hair is healthy and cared for beforehand.
With that being said, let's break down how the whole Boho Locs install works to help your hair retain moisture through the duration of your 12 week wear:
  1. You start off by moisturizing and oiling down your freshly washed hair and scalp. This sets you up for success by creating healthy hair conditions.
  2. Then, you braid your hair into 8 to 10 medium-sized cornrows in the back and a handful of individual plaits in the front. This alone is a protective style because now your hair is out of the way and the moisture is already being locked in.
  3. Now you can install your favorite style of Boho Locs on your sturdy, moisturized braid base. Do you see how the locs cover your entire head once the install is done? This will protect your hair from harsh, damaging conditions for as long as you have them in.
  4. Finally, after the 12 weeks is up, take them out gently. Take notice that your hair is still moisturized after all of this time! This is because your locs did what they had to do, and protected your after you properly prepped it. Cool, right?
While Boho Locs offers many cute styles to wear when you're ready to serve, they're not just that. They're also an effective protective and low manipulation style that'll keep your hair healthy and growing for as long as you wear them.
