Whether your locs are created via extensions or are naturally grown, one thing is for certain: layers can turn your style from a look that is simple and plain, to one that is beautifully complementary and face-framing.
To be clear, while there is nothing wrong with rocking just one length, but there's something oh-so-trendy about mixing it up a little bit.
And just in case you were wondering, where we are going with this. . .
YES! You can absolutely layer your Boho Locs! The best part about layering them is that there's no fuss involved; No cutting or extra styling necessary—just an additional set of shorter locs to complement your longer tresses.
Interested in layering your Boho Locs this time around? Let's get into what that means and how you can achieve the ultra-trendy look with nearly all of our styles.
What are Boho Layers?
Simply put, Boho Layers are a set of 14" or 16" locs that are worn with all of our styles over 24" long to create natural, face-framing layers.
Don't be confused—Boho Layers are a little different than the layers most of us are used to.
When talking about hairstyles other than locs, layers typically refer to a variation in length all over the head.
With Boho Layers, however, only the locs around the perimeter of the face are shorter, and the back remains the same length all around.
Sounds simple enough, right? Well lucky for us, the install process is just as simple.
How To Install Boho Layers
It's important to note that all Boho Locs styles are basically done in the same way because overall, it's just a basic crochet install. So, installing Boho Layers is no different.
First things first:
Step 1: Start your foundation. The easiest way to do this is to go with the standard base: braid your hair into about 10 individual plaits in the front and 8 cornrows in the back.
Step 2: Once your base is down, begin crocheting your locs onto your cornrows. Remember that you're only working with one, long length at this point, so there's no need to touch the set of Boho Layers just yet.
Step 3: Now that you've crocheted your locs to your cornrows and double-checked that they are sturdy and secure, you can begin working on the layers! This is where your individual plaits come into play. First, slide the crochet needle through the base of the individual about an inch through. Then, attach the loop of the loc to the hook, close the latch, and then slide it through.
Step 4: Once the loc is through, create a loop, tug, and then pull it tightly into a secure knot at the root of your braid. Your individual plait should now be hanging beside your loc.
Step 5: From here, take your natural hair and disguise it by attaching it to your crochet needle to your individual braid and pulling it through the body of the loc.

Repeat the last three steps until your whole head is completely done and voila! You've successfully installed a gorgeous set of locs using Boho Layers for the first time.
